Hi William,

Good to hear from you.  Welcome to RootsChat.

I have most of the birth, marriage, death and census records for the William Briggs Wilkinsons side of the family.  I have a certified copy of Williams birth.  It shows he was born  27th Jan 1859 in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, and, his parents were Samuel Wilkinson and Sarah Briggs.  I think they were married in June 1856 in Newark, Nottinghamshire/Lincolnshire (Newark is on the county border) but I have still to get a copy of their marriage cert.

As for Samuels marriage to Mary Jane Hedworth I have not found any record except for what is shown on the birth records of their children.  This gives the name of the parents and where and when married.  It shows they were married in Exeter, Devon, but, different birth records give different dates, 11 Aug 1856, 11 Aug 1857, 11 Aug 1859.  I suspect its 1859.  Do you have the correct date?

Did you know that John Edmondson was the cousin of Janet Edmondson?  Janet was the mother of Joan who died in 1999.

You said in your message that Jessie was my dads sister.  I have Jessie as being William Briggs's sister.  Are we getting mixed up?  My father is Richard Wilkinson, his father was Richard David and his father was William Briggs.

Hope to hear from you soon.

We have the same blood! Have you or are you in touch with any of the other WBW brother & sisters families/ descendants?
There is a lot of info in the family bible. Names dates ect. I beleave the bible started 2 or 3 generations prior to our greatgrandfather. I'll get the info & pass it on!

Hi William,

It is amazing to find someone connected.  I have tried here and other places to find Wilkinsons researching their family history but never came across any with a connection to us.  I thought I was the only one searching.

I haven't been in touch with any of WBW's descendants but my dad sometimes sees a cousin, usually at a funeral.

I have WBW being married twice, firstly to a Ann Ferguson in 1881.  They had 4 daughters, Mary Jane Marie b1883, Hephzibah Effie b1886 d1891, Sarah b1888 and Ann Jane b1889 d1941.  Ann died a couple of weeks after giving birth to Ann Jane.  He then married Mary Hogg in 1890.  They had 7 children.  Jessie Hogg b1893, Isabella b1895 d 1969, William Briggs b1897, Andrew Hogg b1899 d1975, Richard David b1901 d1952, Alexander b1904 d1974 and James b1907 d1971.  Does this tie in with what you have?

Looking forward to seeing what info you have so we can compare notes.

I took a look at your photo on facebook.  Looks like you are enjoying yourself.  I will add some photos soon.  There are a lot of Wilkinsons on there.  Any related to you?

Cheers

Hi Again,

I meant to add a photo of my grandfather.  He is in the top left of the photo.  It was taken in 1920 when he played rugby for Hawick PSA.  This was the team that won the first ever trophy for the club.
