Joseph & Elizabeth BROOKS - 1841 & 1851 Census please
« on: Saturday 11 April 09 15:27 BST (UK) »
Good afternoon,

I would be very grateful if anyone could find early census details for:

Joseph BROOKS b. c1780
Elizabeth (wife)

They appear to have lived for quite a long time in Hatton, where their children were born:
- Rebecca b. 1806
- Michael b. 1807
- Elizabeth b. 1809
- Joseph b. 1810
- Susannah b. 1812
- Philip b. 1814, died 1814

I cannot find a marriage for them for the moment, not where either of them were born unfortunately.
Perhaps the 1841 census - even if "born in county"- and perhaps 1851 might give a clue.
Joseph possibly died 1stQ 1846 (Horncastle 14. 274) and Elizabeth 3rdQ 1851 (Horncastle 14.262)

Any clue or help would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Nick

Hi.

I have found Elizabeth in 1841 with two children but no Joseph.

She is at Martin, no full address given, not many miles from Hatton.
Piece no: 640.  Folio 12/3  Page 3.

Elizabeth aged 60

Philip aged 20.  Ag Lab (named after the deceased Philip?)

William aged 15.  Ag Lab.

All born in County.

The only Joseph that I could find that fitted was in Glanford Brigg aged 65 living with a Hannah aged 55.  This Joseph was an Ag Lab too.  Maybe yours or maybe not.
The ref was Piece 635  Folio 6/24  Page 21.

Sorry I don't have access to the full 1851 census so hopefully someone else may assist on that.

N.C.

Good afternoon,

NC, Many thanks for your info which may put me on the right track.

Geoff, thanks for eliminating the 1846 death for Joseph and for the Martin burials.
At least I may have a place of birth for Elizabeth with Scamblesby. Will have to do a little more digging and come back on this one !

Thanks very much for your help.

Nick
