info about Shiel Barry/Dorothy Minto

This is my first post so i hope itīs in the right place!
I am looking for info about one of my ancestors, his name was Shiel Ronald Barry (his fatherīs name was Andrew Shiel Barry and motherīs name was Rachel Harriet Pocock). He was born in Lambeth London in 1880, became an actor like his father, married the actress Dorothy Minto in 1907 in London. He died in France in October 1916 in the Battle of the Somme.

On the 1911 census I see they had a child but no name is given though the child was still alive though apparantly not at home on the night the census was taken. I can find nothing of Dorothy Minto after 1936 when she made her last film.

I would be grateful for any info, I live abroad and have to rely on the internet for my research.

There is an obituary in the New York Times on March 14, 1897, for the British actor Shiel Barry who had died in London the previous day, presumably this was the father whose first appearance on the London stage was in 1870.

Hi carole, yes there is a one in columns 7 and 8 of the 1911 image. When I look at column 9 it looks like the child was still living. If you look at the census youīll see Shiel Barry had what i think is unusual handwriting but the marks in those columns are clear. They were living at Argyll Mansions in Chelsea, London.

By the way Robbo, I have a copy of his fatherīs obituary which I found on the net. He appeared on stage in Australia and Ireland  as well as London.

I'm related to Shiel Barry - my grandmother was his cousin. I've recently learnt a fair amount about Shiel & Dorothy Minto, and about Shiel's parents. His mother Rachel was my great grandmother's older sister.

Are you descended from Shiel & Dorothy?

Iīm not descended from them. He was my great grandmotherīs nephew.
