hi . just started  looking for the ballance family link .g/father was william ballance  born 1883 , told his father was thomas james. he married in1877. had a son 1880 , called thomas james. i have a church of ireland prayer book, on the cover TJB. if anyone could help i would begreatful. yours william ballance.

Thomas James Ballance born 25 May 1880 Belfast, parents Thomas James Ballance and Margaret Cosgrove.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

26th Dec 1877, Thomas James Ballance married Margaret Cosgrove at Saint Johns Laganbank Church of Ireland, in the Parish of Knockbreda, Civil District Belfast, County Antrim .

many thanks aghadowey, found lots of ballances,trying to fit the names in  the right order.i never knew my g/father william had abrother called thomas .will keep on looking,hope to get back to belfast soon.

thanks  otto. i remember a church at the top of the laganbank road up from the ulster bus station .but i think its on oxford st? will look around when i get back there

Going through older posts and came across this one. By now you might have been able to find more information but if you haven't done so the following might be of interest.

The 1901 and 1911 census are now online. Wonder if this is 'your' Thomas Ballance (birthplace given as Co. Tyrone)- religion listed as 'Parish church' which is Church of Ireland.

hello aghadowey,many thanks for that info, i did find that and its the right person,only don`t know what parish church was. my wife lived on the mountpottinger road many years later. again thanks.regards william.

   The fathers of the bride and groom in the 1877 marriage were James Ballance and Francis Cosgrove.
