Have you tried to find any South African records?

They may have married over there.  Also it might bring up information on possible children born after the marriage. 

You could also try deaths and work backwards.

The only other option I can think of is to try to access "overseas" records such as Consular births, marriages and deaths.  Some pay per view sites provide them.

Other than that, is there anyone in the family who might know a bit more??

Hello again,

This could be a complete red herring, but working on the basis that the family probably returned to the UK in their old age I found the following deaths:

Ellen Walker born 14.10.1917  Died Nov 2001 Salford.  Ref TC66030

Alexander Walker born 20.5.1914 Died July 1990 Salford  Ref 39/687

Hope it is them.  I have checked lots of other records with no luck.

It's the South Africa Family History Society and has lots of links to other useful sites.  It could be useful if you contact them giving all the details you have.  They might be able to suggest next steps.
