Good morning csc thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately I have already contacted Erica the archivist at the library and she informed me that as the estate was still in private hands there were not any public records. Regards stoop.

Hi Stoop  :)

If that's the case it might be that the Sasines would help. You'd have to go to Edinburgh though:

Hi Gadget would the Sasines only refer to landowners, I think my Kerrs were tenants. Regards stoop.

Probably  - but you asked for landowners and didn't mention tenants.

What time period are you interested in - there could be local tenancy agreements in the later period.

Hi csc Erica did mention the Kinmont and Hoddam estate she said that they had been surveyed by the national archives from 1804 but as the estate was in private hands we could not access the records. It has just dawned on me that a Kerr would probably be a tenant at that time. Rachel Kerr who was the daughter of James Kerr tenant in Cleughbrae lived and died in Cleughbrae. Her sister in law lived with her(M ary Kerr ms. Slater) or near her unless there are two farms in Cleughbrae. Regards stoop.

Sorry about that Gadget. I am interested in two particular periods , the 1780s and 1790s and through to the 1840s when I know specific Kerrs tenanted farms in Cleughbrae and Mouswald. Regards stoop.
