Thomas Smith and Ann Kirkley Witton Park
« on: Wednesday 15 April 09 14:27 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help. ???  Thomas Smith and Ann Kirkley were married in 1843 in Witton Le Wear.  Their families were neighbours in Witton park in 1841 census.  They had a son  born in Bishop Auckland in 1846/1847.  Cannot find a birth or baptism record for him?  There is a record of an Elizabeth Smith born in July 1844 (BT's for Witton Le Wear)baptised later that month coinciding with Thomas and Anne's wedding day 1843.  Was she their daughter also?  Only Thomas 1846/1847 seems to follow them to Hartlepool where the 1851 census has them at Waterloo Inn, Prissick Street, Hartlepool and Thomas is 28years old and innkeeper.  Young Thomas is 5years old.  In 1856 Ann Smith is down as named holder for Waterloo Inn, in the Hartlepool directories.  In January 1857 Hartlepool  Ann remarries as a widow a John MacMillan (ex navy) customs and excise coastguard and they move to Scotland.  (From therein we have family certs and docs).  There is a record of burial for Hartlepool 1852 for Thomas Smith aged 29years January  All Saints Stranton.  Do I need to purchase death cert to find out if he is our Thomas ???

You might have to get the death certificate.  It will give you the date of death, cause of death,  his occupation, address and the informant.  It will not say husband of so and so.

Thanks Janis.  Thought as much but the address on death cert may help confirm, so think I will apply for it.   :-\Thanks
