I can find him in 1881 (Pontypridd, Class: RG11; Piece: 5294; Folio: 146; Page: 13) but before that he (and his family) seem to disappear ?

think it might be and I think you might find he was a widower. Using his age in 1901 which he gave as 61

1871 19 Mary St, Heolwermod, Merthyr Tydfil RG10/5393 folio 74 pg 7
Henry Bennett head mar 42 collier b. Radnorshire, Breslach(?)
Sarah wife 44
John Frost step son 16 engine stoker
Thomas Bennett son 6
all born Merthyr Tydfil unless otherwise stated

marriage reg
Hennry (sic) Bennett sept qtr 1869 Merthyr Tydfil with Sarah Frost on the same page

death reg
Sarah Bennett 49 dec qtr 1876 Merthyr Tydfil vol 11a pg 258
Thomas Bennett 8 march qtr 1873 Merthyr Tydil vol 11a pg 261

1851 I can see a possible for him in Llandyfalle, Breconshire as an ag lab, age 20, with birth place of Radnorshire HO107/2489 folio 676 pg 15

1841 Dolhir, Glasbury, Radnorshire HO107/1456/5 folio 22 pg 2
Henry Bennett 11 ag lab
born in county in household headed by Jane Morris

Although Glasbury is on the census as Radnorshire, it's mainly in Breconshire. Talgarth & Llandyfalle aren't far.

No idea what that 1871 birthplace is meant to be.

Noooo, please don't tear out your hair!  ;D

Think this could be him in 1861, if so, widower twice over. Vaynor is in Breconshire, but only a few miles from Merthyr and wife's birthplace used for both?

1861 Back of High St, Cefn, Vaynor RG9/4062 folio 35 pg 35
Henry Bennett head mar 30 ironstone miner b. Carmarthen, Mothvey
Margaret wife 32 b. Carmarthen, Mothvey
John son 1 b. Breconshire, Vaynor
Thomas Evans boarder 17 ironstone miner b. Vaynor

marriage reg
Henry Bennett dec qtr 1858 Merthyr Tydfil vol 11a pg 523 with Margaret Evans and Margaret Meyrick on the same page.
Could Thomas be Margaret's brother?

death reg
Margaret Bennett 41 march qtr 1869 MT vol 11a pg 262
couple of possibles for John when ages aren't on the index

Was having problems with the IGI earlier, but just got on and found a possible baptism in Boughrood Radnorshire, again not far from Glasbury, and, mispelt could be the place of birth in 1871
Henry son of John & Jane Bennet bp 7/2/1830 IGI batch C057621
No other Bennetts in the batch.

Glad he had a longer lasting and fruitful marriage eventually!
