Emery Baptism in West Ham
« on: Saturday 18 April 09 18:18 BST (UK) »
Can SKS please check out the baptisms of

Mary Ann EMERY in West Ham in JUN qtr 1906 and again in MAR qtr 1909.

I am hoping that one or both are the daughters of Daniel and Minnie EMERY

Thank you

Better bet would be the 1911 census as the parents have reasonably uncommon names.

Both girls are dead by 1911,hence the request to establish which if either belongs to my tree.

Kind Regards

And what makes Mary Ann the preferred candidate name?
Can you eliminate one or other by looking at the who, when, where of their other kids?

There is a gap between children and Mary Ann is the grandmother on the fathers side. They were in West Ham at the time so thats why I am hoping they belong to Daniel and Minnie.

Are these enquiries because you are able to do the lookup for me?

If "West Ham" is what appears in the Birth index, it will be a registration district, not a Parish. It will cover many, many parishes.
It will therefore be virtually impossible for anyone to look up a christening (assuming that they were christened in a CofE church of course) without knowing which parish.
Therefore, without further info this is really a non starter.

You will need to send for the birth certs to establish parentage.

(looking for them on 1911 with parents was to save yuo the £7 - but if the girls are dead by then, then that is a non starter too)

I know they actually lived in West Ham itself so I am not asking for a regsitration district to be searched.

West Ham is a 'village' with 4 C of E churches.I have checked this myself so you are wrong when you say West Ham is not a parish.

This website is all about people helping each other and sharing resources.

I am quite happy for this request to wait until someone has the time spare when they are looking at any West Ham parish register to look for me as I have done many times for others.

I would not call it a non starter myself

I'd call it a non-starter too. Your only info appears to be the GRO indexes.

What if this missing child were not "Mary Ann"?
What if they don't remain in the precise area for the period?
Looks like a wild goose chase to me.

Further if you do have this location pinned down,  why not have the courtesy to list these 4 churches!

so you are wrong when you say West Ham is not a parish.

This website is all about people helping each other and sharing resources.

Just to clarify - I said that the name West Ham appearing in indexes refers to a Registration District and not to a Parish (not that a parish of West Ham does not exist)

And I was trying to help - by giving information based on my own experience, which is entirely up to you if you take or leave. That information being that a Parish name would be needed for anyone to realistically do a look up, rather than a Reg district. The initial post quoted Quarters from the index and therefore implied that the West Ham was the reg district also from the index.

If you have the parish names and know there were christenings that took place in one of those for these children, then as Pauline says it would be helpful to give them.

I hope someone is going to the appropiate record office and can then find the info for you. It will not be a quick task, 4 parishes for several months each.  And there is no real evidence that these little Mary Anns who died in infancy are going to be of the right family.
Therefore it might well be best, if you wish to know their parentage, to buy the birth certs!

Hope you get it sorted and find out one way or another what you want to know.
