John Richardson Kirkpatrick Fleming
« on: Monday 20 April 09 22:05 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone,  ;D
I am new to your site and wondered if anyone could help with my long standing brickwall?

John RICHARDSON born circa 1790 in Kirkpatrick Fleming (info from Mormon Family Search site) married Nicholas MUIR/Mure/More, born circa 1792 (census reports). They had 3 children James RICHARDSON 1822 Barnsfoot, Jane Stewart Maxwell RICHARDSON born 1825 Spring Kell, and Jessie Hope RICHARDSON born 1824 Kirkpatrick.

John was a Coachman and Butler, I have been unable to find birth, death or marriage info on Scotlands People and have no idea who his parents were.

Reading through some of your threads there seems to be quite a few Richardson's but couldn't see any matches for mine   :(
Any help/pointers would be most welcome.

Hi Jane

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Do you have the family on any of the censuses?  Have you looked for a death after Jan 1855 with wildcards/soundex ?

If you let me know the last known parish of residence, I'll check the MIs for you.

Regards

Hi Gadget,

Thankyou for the welcome.

I have cert's for Nicholas,
1841: Penningham, Midwife. With son James.
1851: Greenbridge, Minnigaff. WIDOW. With both daughters.
1861: Greenbridge, with daughter Jane.
1871: Greenbridge, on her own.
Death: 1875 Burnside Farm, Kirkpatrick Durham. I do not know where she was buried.

I've tried S/P for John but with no luck, not knowing who his parents are it's hard to pin him down, unless you could suggest any other ways to search, I'm open to all suggestions  :-[  if you know what I mean  ;D

The last definite parish of residence would be Jane's birth place, Springkell, in 1825.
I don't have Jessie's OPR. but she was born in 1824 and on the 1851 census it says she was born in Kirkpatrick Fleming.  She was buried in Minnigaff Churchyard in 1856.

I hope this all makes sense to you I tend to ramble a bit.

Yours Jane

I'll hae a look at the Minnigaff and Kirkpartrick Durham MIs first of all.

Have you checked the neighbouring Wigtownshire parishes as well- especially Penningham?  Problem is that you're relying on pretty poor burial records at the moment.

I'll do a bit of snooping around and get back to you. It's a bit late now.

The naming pattern of the children doesn't seem to help  :(

I see that Nicholas's parents were Robert Muir and Margaret m.s. Hope  - I was hoping (no pun intended) that it would show something.

Do the Stewart and Maxwell names crop up on Nicholas's side? If not, that could be a help.

Hi Gadget,

I have not come across the Stewart or Maxwell names anywhere else so far...

I thought the Maxwell name may have come from John's (I think) employer. He may have been working at Springkell House, the home of the Maxwells, or am I stretching things too far again  :-\ .
Did people name their children after prominent families?
If not it could come from John's mothers side.
Only trouble is that Stewart is like Jones in England, lots of them.......... ::)

Hi

I thought of the possibility of the Maxwell link after I'd gone off line.

It was a fairly common practise.

I did find a John Richardson bpt. 3 Sept 1793 in Perth with parents James Richardson and Elizabeth Stewart  but not at all sure. If they used the traditional naming convention, then his father should be a James. Also, if he was a butler/coachman he might well have travelled around but no real evidence  :-\

Yep, I found that one too, in fact I pulled of the OPR from S/P, lots of money  :'(  but no firm link.

I was reading the post about the Richardsons below my post, (can't look while I'm typing  :) ), he seems to have a lot of Maxwells and Stewarts in his family but I can't see a link with my John?
