Thanks to both for your help.
I think the banns must have been read in both Stretton-on-Fosse and Shipton-under-Wychwood which was required under law (unless a license was obtained). I believe whereas Stretton is now regarded as in Warwickshire, it was part of GLS until the 19thc. The whole of this area takes in several counties. Oxon, Warks, GLS and Worcs, sorting them out viz present day and the past can be confusing.
Despite the change of spelling, I am sure both entries refer to the same people. If they are, as I hope, my ancestors, they went to live in Toddington GLS, where they appear in the register in 1783 with yet another spelling ie Henry and Amy TOVEY Both of my ancestors, Henry and Amy are buried in Toddington St Andrew. As I have not found any suitable marriage in GLS, I am hopeful I am on the right track.
One question Myfi - are the witnesses Wm Pill and Peter Cross, regular parish signitories to weddings in Shipton, (as sometimes happened), or do they seem to be friends/family?
Shame you couldn't find a birth record for Emy Wibling in Shipton, but at least I have a name to search for, no matter how variable the spelling. I assume you tried looking for Amy or even Emma Weblin? Even the surnames Webb, Webber or Webster in Shipton might have a link as Weblin is a diminutive of this medieval occupational name for a weaver. I have seen no end of variation of the name Amy being used for this lady. Eme, Emme, Emmy, Emma, Amy, Amie.
