I am trying to find out why my grandfather - Thomas Lachlan Drury - received an MBE in 1949. Can anyone help?

As his notice in the London Gazette says lately Librarian, General Post Office perhaps contacting them may shed some light.

Here's the ref for the London Gazette http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/38628/supplements/2808

I'll go and find the web address for the GPO

Another source of information is:

Ceremonial Secretariat
Cabinet Office
35 Great Smith Street
LONDON SW1P 3BQ

Telephone: +44 (0)20 7276 2777

E-mail: ceremonial(replace with 'at')cabinet-office.x.gsi.gov.uk

Another RChatter was then also referred on to the Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood at St James's Palace for additional information (www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,334191.0.html)
