It has really upset me for some reason as I would have had a sibling nearer my age.
It was never mentioned in the family as far as I know.

Trish

Trish, I can relate to that.    I learnt about my stillborn sibling in my early 30's,  my charming older sister told me that it was none of my business. :'(

My mother was embarrassed when I asked.   Obviously it was a subject that was never mentioned.

Thanks KHP ;D

You've made me feel better about it :)to know that you found the same situation. It must have been very upsetting for you due to the response you had from Family.

Trish,

Thiink it must have been the generation gap;D   Same response about my father dying when I was 3 years old.    Didn't talk about it, and if I was around  the subject was changed.  But that was what it was like back then .... hush hush ;D ;D

I often wonder what if ...... if my brother lived, what life would have been like.  etc:'(

But a good site and have found heaps ;D

BDM Historical records now on Line
« Reply #30 on: Wednesday 25 February 09 17:59 GMT (UK) »
The Department of Internal Affairs have now put on line the "Historical" Birth Deaths and Marriages.

Do a Google search NZ BDM and log on to the appropriate pages.

Its a bit slow at present due to the large number of people accessing the site.

In addition, as far as I can see, there are numerous errors. For instance my Miskelley ancestors show no husbands. I then found that their husbands had been entered as "Brides".

Also a number of spelling errors.

The access is in line with the new access laws. Births have to be 100 years ago, marriages 80 years ago, deaths 50 years ago unles the deceased would now be aged 80.

It's helpful and a lot easier than searching through microfiche.

Have you tried this suggestion, (from anotherlist and it works)
If you don't want cert but just the date for your records
you can slowly narrow down dates, 1/2 year, 1/4's month, then days...
so for a small amount of trial and error you can now get a date, with out spending $$$$$  8)
Bye

having found year ........... say 01/01/1888 - 31/12/1888

you then enter   01/01/1888 and 31/06/1888 if they show up then you just keep reducing the date spread till bingo,  :)

I use a similar technique to locate years on ScotsPeople.

If the person is not shown in (01/01/188-31/06/1888) then of course they are born in later part of year and you enter 01/07/1888-31/12/1888, till you work it down.

  :)
