Butters family Census look ups
« on: Friday 01 May 09 18:01 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm having trouble finding census returns for the following members of the Butter/Butters family, if anyone can help it would be most appreciated.

Mary Butters widow of Henry c1796 Gresham Norfolk (1841/1851)
Elizabeth Butter born 1821 in Marston parents Henry and Mary (1841/1851)
Elizabeth married Randall Eagling so any later census returns she will appear as Elizabeth Eagling (1861/1871/1891) At some point they moved to Shipley Yorkshire as they were living there in 1881
Walter Benjamin Butters born 1843  to Elizabeth Butter in Walsingham/Wayland (1851 census)

Hi Mum 44

Many thanks it does look promising. It could be Elizabeth, she didn't marry Randall until Mar Qtr 1853 in Walsingham, her sons Walter Benjamin and Robert John might be with her widowed mum or family but I've not found them in 1851 in my searches, and Morston/Marston sound very much the same.  Just checking on Freebmd her middle name is Anne on her marriage if it's any help.

Hi Mum 44

Many many thanks, it looks like Mary was looking after the boys for her daughter, it's unusual Robert prefers his middle name, I'll put the census returns onto hubby's tree for him, thanks again I had no luck finding them at all, Yorkshire I'm not too bad with but I don't know my way round Norfolk as you might have guessed :)

The only faintly likely Mary I can see in 1841 is living in Morston, she is 49  -  rounded down maybe?  Living with a Hannah Butters also age 49 and a Robert Butters age 12.

Hi

Unfortunately Henry died in 1839, and there isn't a birth for him on the IGI, these are their wedding details Henry aged 22+ and Mary Lines 21+ at time of Marriage, Walsingham District, Morston Marriages (Parish Register) 1817 putting them around  1793/94 ish not found their births and parents for clues which doesn't really help I know.  Hannah could be a sibling of Henry's or a sis in law, there is a problem I've heard with rounding up and down with the 1841 Census, I've seen it happen with other families in my tree and Pete's.
