This is a shot in the dark!
I read on the Rootschat Travellers board that HURN might be a traveller name - is that likely?
I have an
Emma HURN who was born in Gloucestershire Olveston or Alveston, writing not very clear, in 1825 - according to the 1861 census for Trevethin, Monmouthshire, which is the only one I have her on.
She married
William (or James) BURT, a coal miner (not on the census - this from marriage cert of Alonzo and birth certs of both boys) and had three children born in Garndiffaith, Trevethin, Monmouthshire- Elizabeth 1849; Alonzo 1852 and Henry 1856.
Marriage not found.
I know that Alonzo later used the surname
BROWN(E) interchangably with BURT. I have no idea why!
After the 1861 census, the BURTs disappear again. Apart from Alonzo. I have some idea what happened to Elizabeth but Emma and Henry disappear.
Is Alonzo a traveller name?
I would love to know where Emma came from and where she went!
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Kind regards, Arranroots
