Ahha,

Here it is. 1852.   :'(

Henry and Elizabeth are listed including that she died aboard the ship.

Why would he have been an ag lab? Assisted immigrants

Thanks for that. Ag lab sounds like farm labourer. I believe he was a tailor back in Truro, but they all farmed for a while out here in the Barrabool Hills just on the edge of Geelong. Charles was supposed to be a master mariner?  Henry's grandson Clarence Henry was a sailor. He was actuall shipwrecked up in th Torres Strait before the first war and had to swim to an iland where he was marooned for a while. He went on to serve in the first war along with two of his brothers, my grandfather included.

They all had the dark-eyed features you see in those wonderful old photos you've attached in other threads.

Hi Scott,

It just does not sound right to me. Listing as an ag lab is certainly not something I would expect to see in this family. There is a Henry who was a Tailor appearing in 1851 with his wife Jane and Children, born Penryn but he is still in Cornwall in 1861.

William was a farmer. William and Jane's sons were all Farmers, plus an accountant, a Grocer, a master mariner and a shipwright. Charles was a Shipwright, It was William who was the master mariner.

There does not appear to be any children with Henry and Elizabeth on the ship. I did see a marriage of Henry JOHNS to Elizabeth INCH Jun 1852 Truro 5c 279, I guess could be possible.

Do you have Henry and Ellen's marriage certificate?

The 1841 census has Henry as a tailor I believe.

Scott,

Sorry, I do not believe that is your man. He is married to Jane in 1851 and in 1861 still in Cornwall with Jane. I still cannot spot a likely for your Henry in the census.

Cornwall Census is Free Online. Take a look yourself

I've done some digging around and been shown the source docs. It seems Henry, born 20/3/1821 was baptised 18/7/1821, he was born at Mawnan. He married Elizabeth Inch at Kenwyn in 1852, but he had already previously come to AUst on the Navarino in 1848. It is a mystery why he returned, married Elizabeth and came back as an assisted passenger. Charles was witness at his wedding to Ellen Holden in St Kilda in 1854. Henry's first child Edward married Charles daughter Grace Gertrude ( they had a number of children die as infants an "cousins" is written on the death certificates.
Henry was a substantial landowner in Highton Geel, where he is buried, and where I grew up.  He was also a kep player in setting up the Wesleyan Church in the shire of Barrabool.
There are legal papers regarding his inheritance form his grandfather Richard, as William's inheritance was only for his lifetime it seems.
Apparently in the 1841 census Henry was with his brother John at Trevisa in St Enedor.
Unfortunately the source docs are not mine so I cannot send them on.
Regards,
Scott Johns.

Fascinating Scott,

They are there at Trevisa.  ;D Henry is listed as 25, older than expected - no occupation is given. He is residing with John a farmer and Anna his wife + 4 servants. That is certainly brother John. Also explains why he is not showing in 1851 as he is in Australia.

HO107/150/23 Folio 23 Page 7
Trevisa
St Enoder

JOHNS John 30 Y Farmer
JOHNS Anna 30 Y
JOHNS Henry 25 Y
+ 4 servants

John is listed as a farmer at Retyn in 1851 and 1861. He dies in 1861 and burial also lists Retyn

Looks like your source is very good. The Navarino arrived in Adelaide and Henry JOHNS is listed as a passenger  ;D
