Can you help with Samuel Henry Brooke
« on: Wednesday 06 May 09 14:35 BST (UK) »
Hello all
Samuel Henry Brooke, born 1857 Shoreditch London MIddlesex. The lsat census details I have for him is the 1871, when he is shown as 14 yrs of age, with his grandparents George & Henry Brooke, at Myddleton Square, Clerkenwell London.

Samuel's Father Henry left England in 1885 and went to Australia, taking 2 children with him ( not Samuel ). He remarried in 1886 and had another family.

All I know about Samuel is that he went to Canada, and I have been told " wandered around the country " He died Mount Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, but I don't know when.

Many thanks ... Lyn  :)

In the 1900 census of Chicago, IL, there is (can be seen at http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch ) a Samuel H. Brooke, b. Jan 1857 England and came to the US in 1886, is married to a Canadian woman, Ella, they have a son, Harold, b. 1899. Ella's mother (Catherine Burkholder) and two of her siblings are also in the household.

The Burkholder family appear to be in Barton, Wentworth, Ontario in 1881, which also happens to be the area where the Mount Hamilton cemetery is located.

There appears to be on Ancestry a marriage for Samuel Henry Brooke and Ella A Burkholder in Ontario which gives his parents as Henry and Charlotte - I can't get the full info out but that should be useful for you.

Info on Ella's family:

Hi jorose  :-* :-* :-*
That sounds like the one  ;D.. Samuel's parents were Henry Dyson Brooke and Hannah CHARLOTTE White. Henry left her in England in 1885, and went off to Australia, taking 2 children with him, remarrying 1886. He died 1895 NSW.  Hannah is shown on the English census as Charlotte from 1871. She died 1924, still known as Brooke.

Thank you for the link http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch. I've never used this before. You learn something new every day  :D  I've found the image on the site. Don't they give a lot of information.

Thank you also for the link http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=roncox&id=I7724. I didn't expect to find all this information when I put on the posting.

Thank you again jorose .............. Lyn
