Tramcar Inn 851 Attercliffe Road Sheffield : info or any memories?
« on: Monday 21 February 05 10:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Does anyone have any information (or memories!!) of the Tramcar Inn which was at 851 Attercliffe Road in Sheffield? I have been told it was knocked down in the 1970's and i believe it might have been across from what is now the entrance to don valley stadium....(am i right?).....

I recently discovered that ir was run by a member of my family just before and after the turn of the twentieth century.....the only thing i have been able to find about it so far is a photograph which is on the internet.....but no other information....

Any help would be most welcome!

Many thanks , best Wishes
Jatk :)

Yes I can remember it,  Some relatives hd a fish and chip shop not far away.  Don't know much about it but remember going in it during a blizzard some time in the late 60s I think. Can't remember coming out.

CAn you tell me where the photo is?  Might jog my memory

Hi Jatk,

I don't actually remember the pub, but I do remember that the tram depot for Sheffield was at Vulcan Road, approximately where Meadowhall Shopping Centre now is.

I presume you have seen this site which includes a photo of the Tram Car Inn:  http://www.cyberpictures.net.sheffield/

Hi everone

Many thanks for all the replies....

It looks like my family took over the Tramcar Inn not long after Mrs Sykes was there as my gt gt grandads sister's husband (if you know what i mean!) Joseph SYKES was listed as the publican when he died in 1899.....my gt gt grandads sister (Clara Ellen SYKES ...maiden name COTTOM) kept it on after his death and left it some time between 1905 and 1911....she died in 1915.....

I have only recently found out anything at all about Clara and it is really good to be able to find out a bit about her life so she isnt just a name in the tree but a real person!

Many thanks
Best wishes
Jatk
