Hello,
I'm a newcomer here so just saying hello to everyone  :)

I've been researching my family for a couple of years, and come up agains the usual brick walls...especially with John Smith  :o
However, I have made some progress with help from various family history sites and forums.
I hope to post here regularly, and look forward to meeting new friends  :)

Hello and welcome to Rootschat. If there is anything we can help with, please let us know. Even John Smiths are sometimes traceable and there are loads of friendly and willing people on here, who I'm sure will rise to the challenge.

Best wishes,

Jen

Thank you all for your lovely welcome  :)
Thank you Milly for your encouragement about John Smith...all I know about mine is that he was my grandfather and was married and had 7 children  ???
I've given up on that side of the family for now as I seem to have run out of ideas, but I am having some success with another branch so I feel quite happy at the moment  ;D

...Great thing was that I had almost given up on him and wasn't even looking when there he was, minding his own business, in a family grave ;D ;D ;D

Unfortunately, I have ended up with a John Smith at the end of one of my other branches too - so it does feel a little like I am back where I started!

I have two great grandfathers named John Smith. Both on  my mother's side. One I have managed to trace back because he was from a very rural area, the other, I am still stuck on. But I will not give up!

Let us know what you have and we will do our best.
