Philip HERBERT
« on: Saturday 09 May 09 15:52 BST (UK) »
Hi,I have hit that inevitable brick wall.

For a long time I have been looking for the parents of PHILIP HERBERT believed to be born at STANWAY GLOS.

I have his marriage to ANN WHILLOCK on 26/02/1759.

I think PHILIP was born about 1735-1737 but I can't be certain.

He died about 1801 and is said to be buried in STANWAY.

I have looked and searched for his birth but to no avail.

I'm flummoxed as to where to go to next   ???

Maybe a fresh pair of eyes and a keener brain than I have got can find
 my missing man  :).................please  :-*

Soxie,

Looking at Stanway extracted IGI entries via http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyGloucester_(N-Z).htm#S shows a few Herbert surnames and there's a Philip there too.

Regards

Chas

First I would like to thank you both for taking the time to answer my post.

I have search the IGI and am still in the dark. I have seen the 2 Philip's there and have them logged.

I have also found a marriage of a RICHARD HERBERT & ANN HATHERWAY at NAUNTON 1737. What drew me to this marriage was the statement that they were both living at HOMS LEASON in the parish of STANWAY...........but does the date fit for Philip's birth??

So now I have 2 Richards!!!  ???

Oh well................onwards and upwards.........the search goes on  ;D

Thank you both again for your help  :)

My mother has done quite a bit of research on this family.  If you want me to send a ged.com for you to look at please let me know where to send it.

I too have had problems after finding two contemporaneous and identical family names (cousins as I later established) in a village and the only way I managed to sort them out was by searching the parish records of burials.

Hoping to find one of them buried made me feel a bit ghoulish but such searches do sometimes uncover unexpected but interesting historical facts.
