**COMPLETED**census Lookup
« on: Saturday 09 May 09 16:47 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was going to wait for the 1911 census for Wales to come on line but I'm getting far too impatient!! :-[

Can anyone help with a lookup on the 1891c & 1901c for the following family please? see below

I've traced the family on 1881, 1871, 1861 & 1851c. They were resident in Aberdare, Glamorgan from 1861 - 1881.
Peter & Rachel Jones were in Bedwelty on 1851c. Peter living in Carmarthen 1841c

I do know that James married - no info. for 1st marriage only that he had a son possibly named John.
James aged 38 & a widower residence in Aberbargoed when he married in 1908 in the parish of Bedwelty. His father Peter is NOT noted as deceased on the certificate.

I'm particularly interested in trying to find Peter Jones b1826 Carmarthen his wife Rachel b1833 Tredegar/Usk and their son James b1869 Aberdare Glamorgan on 1891 & 1901 census know it maybe difficult having the surname of JONES :-\

Peter Jones b1824/6 Carmarthen occ. coal miner
Rachel         b1833     Tredegar/Usk
David           b1859      Aberdare          coal miner
Edwin          b1862             "                coal miner
Mary Ann     b1865             "                Servant (dom.)
James          b1869             "                coal miner
Joseph         b1871             "                     ?

Thanks for any help  :)

just because he isn't noted as deceased doesn't mean he isn't. Likely looking death reg
Peter Jones 57 june qtr 1882 Merthyr Tydfil vol 11a pg 299

Do you have Peter's marriage cert?
Peter Jones march qtr 1850 Abergavenny vol 26 pg 28 with Rachel Davies on the same page

I'll have a hunt through the census for James.

Hi Osprey,

Thanks for your help so far, my fingers are crossed that you may find James  :)

I don't have Peter's marriage certificate but both the entries you have found look very promising.

I may order the marriage certificate to confirm whether I've found the correct Peter Jones on 1841c in Carmarthen, his father's named John and mother Martha.

At some point I'd like to find the birth certificate of Peter's son James Jones b1869 Aberdare, Glamorgan but there are many, many James Jones :-\

if you can't identify the birth you want in a family, it can help to go sideways and get a cert for a sibling with a more identifiable name. This one?

William Henry Jones march qtr 1857 Merthyr Tydfil vol 11a pg 364

I'm having no luck finding any of the sons in 1891 or 1901 with any certainty. They could have lodged together or named a son Peter to help us out.  ;D
Looks like you may to wait for the 1911.

I found a James married to a Gwenny Louisa in 1901, but there's no sign of a death for her. Another married to a Louise, likewise no likely death reg.

I wondered if this might be Rachel in 1841?

Hi Osprey

I originally thought that maybe James was married to Gwenny Louisa but have ruled this one out, she died much later.

There also a possible match for a marriage entry Sep 1893 Monmouth James Jones/Emma Payne. Maybe a coincidence but James married is 2nd wife in Monmouth  ::)

Thanks for advice on moving sideways - hadn't thought about that - oops missed William Henry b1857 off original post  :-\

Not looked for Rachel yet - that looks very promising - Peter & Rachel were living at 1 Charles Street, parish of Bedwelty town of Tredegar in 1851 :)

Roll on 1911 census for Glamorgan  - may get some answers :)

Thank you - appreciate your time & input  :)
