John Taylor 1837/8
« on: Saturday 09 May 09 22:17 BST (UK) »
I have him
1881 census, born 1838, Pashley, Suffolk, .
1891 census, born 1838, Bradley, Suffolk.
1901 census,  born 1837, Balsham, Cambs.
1911 census, born 1837, Bradley, Suffolk.

I've searched for his birth certificate with no luck.
All these villages are within a very small area, and you can imagine that a traveller would not really know exactly where they were born.
I've tried to find which registration district would apply for the area, but nothing seems sure.
Anyone got any great ideas?
I have JT Newmarket 1839 14 111
or Cosford Q4 1837 12 237.

It's borderline if he was registered or not.

Try parish records instead?

Hi Lavina

You could try getting in touch with the Suffolk FHS. They have a baptism index - not complete but growing - that they're happy to search for a small fee:

Good to see you on the list again.

Pauline,
Thanks for your reply.
I was hoping someone would give me an idea of which parish these areas may come under.

Sharon,
Have not checked the site you suggested, but I'm sure some details will come from there. Thanks.

I have not posted for a while because some posters really put us newbies off with their comments.
If I missed a point you made in the earlier post about John Taylor, please would you made me aware.

Hi Lavinia,

I hope other people take note of your comment about newbies being made to feel awkward about some curt replies to their posts.

I have just posted on another site about just this problem.

We all need to remember that we where all newbies once, and being made to feel foolish should never happen.

Some people need to feel superior by putting others down...do they have problem or what  ;).

Please do not feel put down, there are a lot of wonderful people on this site, many full of knowledge who love nothing better than to share.

Pauline,
Thanks again.
Janey,
I know most of the people here are so helpful, and I shouldn't let one person put me off.
I see you have Wilson's in your ancestors. We are related to Mark Wilson and Eliza Thorpe.
Is there any connection?

Hi Lavina,

I do have an Elizabeth Thorpe, but she is not one of my travelling lot I'm afraid.

And I think I must have every Wilson under the sun but no Mark  :).

Most of my Wilson's came from the north of England and a few strayed into Scotland. They intermarried with the Forrests, Millers, Harley's and Young's.. Do any of these surnames ring a bell?

Hi Jayne,
All my lot kept to East Anglia with autumn holidays in Kent!! ( Hop picking)
I have been lucky enough to find 3 ancestors christened in Offham, Kent, in the 1860S
I do have a Miller but on the 2nd child's registration she was a Grey, So I don't think we will go into that.
Good luck in the rest of your research.
