Parish Records lookup please - Moulton and Holbeach c1836
« on: Sunday 10 May 09 22:07 BST (UK) »
Hi,

This is a big ask; but if possible I wondered if someone could look up a possible marriage between Richard Atkinson Sinclair (or Richard Sinclair Atkinson) to an Eliza Kent between 1834 and 1836.  Richard's occupation was carpenter.

Richard was married before Eliza to a Lydia Parish; have got this marriage which was on the 6 Jan 1834 in Holbeach (very excited to find this on Freereg and shows Richard as a widow, another job!)  There is a death for a Lydia Sinclair, aged 22 on 14th Apr 1835 at Holbeach.

Richard and Eliza had 2 children Sarah Ann Sinclair on 2 Jul 1836 (Buried with the surname Atkinson in 1839 at Weston) and Mary Ann Sinclair Atkinson on 10 June 1838 in Moulton.  Sadly Richard died before Mary was born in May 1838 again in Moulton.

Hope this makes sense  :P

Although many miles from Holbeach, this one could add considerably to your sleepless nights :D

22 Jan 1833 at Scothern
Richard ATKINSON (wid) to Sarah PARISH (wid)

I can't find anything for Eliza KENT (even if she was a widow too)
Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

Ooh, Geoff E, please do not add to my sleepless nights :D

I have found a baptism for a Sinclair Atkinson in Whaplode in 1807 (illegitimately born to a Ann), have wondered if he is Richard and there is a marriage on the IGI for a Sinclair Atkinson in 1830 at Boston, Lincs, so thanks for adding another possibility!

Richard is one of those ancestors that I leave for a while and then come back and have another go; until I realise that my grey hairs are increasing drastically!

Sinclair Atkinson married Anne Graham 9 Nov 1830  Boston

Richard Atkinson married Elizabeth Butler 4 Dec 1834  Stickney
Perhaps he didn't marry Eliza, or used a non conformist set-up.

Yet another thought  --  perhaps over the county boundary in foreign parts -- Norfolk, Northants, etc

Hi Beady,

Thank you for your thoughts and info.  I have found a Richard and Elizabeth Atkinson living in Stickney in the censuses and there is a submitted baptism for one of their children on the IGI, which gives Elizabeth maiden surname as Butler; I realise of course this could be incorrect, but.....

I have considered that Richard and Eliza may not have married, or as GeoffE said that she could have been a widow when they married.

Unfortunately there are no details on children between a Sinclair Atkinson and Anne Graham, or indeed I cannot find them on censuses.  There is a Anne Atkinson living in Boston on the censuses, no apparent husband and with children.

The possibilities are endless :P

I just thought I'd mention that the name ATCHINSON/ATCHENSON was not unknown in the Boston area.

Hi GeoffE,

Thank you, ooh more choice, just what I needed :)

Having fun looking at Eliza Kent at the moment, have found 2 of her siblings Zilpah and Joseph baptised at Weston in 1828, her parents John and Mary were both living at Weston on the 1841 census, so would have thought if she did marry Richard, that is where it would have been.

Perhaps my request for a look up in Moulton and Holbeach should be withdrawn!
