Cholsey and the birthplace of the first child, East Hendred, were in Berkshire and are now in Oxfordshire (transferred in 1974). They're about 10 miles apart according to Google Maps. I would think that Martha and Charles would be in one of those areas or moved to Swindon already in 1871, but just can't spot them at all.

Hi Mum  ;D

I tried to find the marriages of those girls ...none have panned out yet ...

The ones I tried because of age were Martha Jones, Matha Adams (she was in 1861, b Wallingford which is reg district for Cholsey) and Martha Hussey (she may be your Martha Hersey)........ I think the ones bc 1857/58 may be too young to be having a child in 1870, although I did see one young girl aged 13 or 14 in a household with siblings and parents including a sib ..Charles who was 8 months.

Hi mum & deb usa

Acccording to the 1891 census swindon Charles Richings is the head; Martha is his wife aged 38 so she would have been born in 1853

I think maybe I'll have to save my pennies and send for one of the childrens birth certificates.
