« on: Tuesday 12 May 09 06:37 BST (UK) »
Hi

My nan is Joan Coventon but her maiden name is Leighton and she has a sister Barbara Jean Leighton.

She said her father is called Sidney Herbert Leighton and the mother maiden name is Faithful

But I can't find anything on them

Thanks

Hello, James,

Found these two births, Joan was also born in Islington like her sister Barbara.

Birth      mother's maiden name Faithfull
Joan M. Leighton  June ¼ 1933  Islington  1b  396
Barbara J Leighton   Sept. ¼ 1934  Islington  1b  383

I have searched the complete GRO marriage entries 1920-1935 & not found any entry for a marriage for a Sidney Herbert Leighton to  a ..?..Faithfull.  I will have another try as I may have missed something.  I think it may mean getting a  Birth cert. to ascertain the mother's full name as it could be possible it is a second marriage for Sidney Leighton & a marriage cert would show both the spouse's birth & first marriage name.

Meliora.

I have searched for a marrriage for a Sidney Herbert Leighton to a ..?..Faithfull 1920 -1933 & also for the surname Faithfull 1920-1933 in the complete GRO marriage indexes but with no success.

Also seached for a birth for Sidney Herbert Leighton, 1900-1915 but the only one I found was for a Sidney Frank Leighton Sept ¼ 1904  Edmonton 3a 538.

sorry I can't be of more help.

I think the best thing here is to get the birth cert for your Joan Leighton which will confirm both father & mother's names, when the budget allows, we all have that problem, not being able to proceed until we have that essential important cert.

When you do have the info, let us know so we can try again.
