Whitby lookup request: Bessie Robinson
« on: Tuesday 12 May 09 12:04 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for a Bessie Robinson (nee Gordon), wife of William Stanley, who died in Whitby ca. 1982 (not sure where buried).  What I'm really after is her date of birth, so any indication of her age at death would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben, welcome to the forum. Are you sure she was born Whitby as there are no Gordon births registered in the Whitby district between 1880 and 1930 according to FreeBMD. Was Bessie her name or was she just known as Bessie? Anything else that you know will help. :)

Hi, and thanks for your reply.

Sorry, I think my original post may have been a bit misleading.  She was born in the late 1890s in Macduff, Banffshire, but since the Scottish records are harder (i.e. more expensive) to access than those for England and Wales, I was hoping to get a clue as to her date of birth from her burial record.  I'm pretty sure she died in Whitby in 1982, so I was hoping there might be a monument inscription available.

Hi,

This is excellent, many thanks!  :)

Hopefully there might be a death/burial record out there somewhere as well, just to be sure.  (And, come to think of it, a marriage record to William Stanley Robinson ca. 1920 in Whitby or Malton would be ideal too, to confirm Bessie's age.)

Yes, thanks, I have found this marriage record.

Tracking down any other details about Bessie is proving virtually impossible, however...

According to Yorkshire BMD the marriage took place at St James, Manston.

So you have a copy of it & know her approx age & fathers name?  There's 9 Bessie Gordon's born 1890 - 1900 on the Scottish 1901 census but none with the intial D.
