Ju......

I THINK this is your family.....

1891 census
Butt, Ridding Lane, Bentham

Thomas Taylor / head / age 33 / Farmer / born Thrus(h)gill , Lancashire
Agnes Taylor / wife / age 30 / Born Tatham, Lancashire
THOMAS C TAYLOR / son / age 9 / born Austwick , Yorkshire
Margaret Taylor / daughter / age 2 / born Bentham, Yorkshire

Thrushgill and Tatham, may have been in Lancashire when they were born, but in beautiful Yorkshire now..........

On the 1901, the family have moved to 3, Holland Street, West Derby, where Thomas snr and Thomas Jnr were both described as Cow keepers......

Where did your Thomas marry in 1908, and who ?  I know exactly how hard it is to research Taylors, having at least three families of that name in my own tree.....

Regards

JeannieR

Ps any witnesses on the marriage licence ?

Hi,
Thanks so much for that  :)

Thomas Taylor married Mary Ann Harrison at Clapham Parish Church which is where she was from, his address is given as Gill Beck Farm, Bentham.

Witness that might help was a Richard Taylor the other was sister of bride.

I am not convinced that the family above is the right one due to the Thomas having a middle name, also I have now obtained Thomas's death cert which clarifies that he born in 1875 not 1885.
Thanks, Thomas doesn't give a middle name on his marriage cert.

Ju.....

I will confirm that that is not the correct family. I have found that particular Thomas, on the 1911, married to a Lizzie Ann......Back to the drawing board.......

My Taylor's have driven me mad !

Will see what I can do

With the new info...

Me again......

With the new information, I came up with this family......

1881 census/ High Birks, Lawkland (next village to Clapham )

Thomas Taylor / head / age 28 / Farmer
Ann Taylor / wife / age 29
Miles Taylor / son / age 8
Ellen Taylor / daughter age 7
THOMAS TAYLOR / son / age 5
Richard Taylor / son / age 3
Isabel Taylor / daughter / age 2
Ann Taylor / daughter / age 10 months

All were born Lawkland

I think this is your Thomas in 1901.....

Bentham

John Taylor / head / age 36 / farmer born Clapham
Sarah Taylor / wife / age 29
Miles Taylor / son / age 5
Hannah Taylor / daughter / age 3
THOMAS TAYLOR / farm servant / age 25 / born Clapham

I think John was Thomas's uncle. The significance beiing the name Miles, in both families.
Thomas snr and John were the son's of Miles and Isabella Taylor , who also had a son Richard,as well as a couple more, and a few daughters !

What do you think ?

Kind Regards

JeannieR

Hi Ju,

I am very new to Rootschat.  I am not exactly sure how to use Rootchat so I will so my best.
When I was researching my family I came across your posting from '05 regarding some of my family members.  I was hoping you could help me fill in some holes.
I am a descendent of Annis CATHERALL b:Jan 16 1843 who was the wife of Benjamin ROBINSON b:1842 I am their great, great, granddaughter
I'm looking to learn more about their parents.  I know Martha Foster was her mother but I don't know about her father.  When it comes to Benjamin I don't know his parents.  Some of the information I do have are the census records for the years 1871, 1881 so I do know the area they are from, Denholme, Denholme Gate, Black Edge Lane.  But I'm from the US so I know little about the area.  Do you know any history of the area?  I have many more questions if you have the time and interest to help me.
With much excitement and gratitude,
Jen377

Hello There Jen......

And welcome to Rootschat. Don't worry about being new to genealogy research. Every one has to start somewhere, and I do not think you could have chosen a better site.........

HOWEVER, I think that you Annis Catherall lineage, may a bit difficult to solve ! I have spent a couple of hours at it, and this is what I have come up with......

I have been unable, to find a birth for Annis/Annice Catherall c1842. However I have found the marriage of Martha CATHERALL to Jonathan FOSTER , which was registered at .........

Bradford / June quarter 1848 / volume 23 page 172.

You can apply online for this marriage certificate at www.gro.gov.uk . Quote the references above.

Here are the girls in 1861.....

Denholme Clough/ registration District Bradford/ Sub registration District Thornton

Jonathan Foster / head / age 52 / Factory Overlooker / born Howarth
MARTHA FOSTER / wife / age 36 / born Ovenden
John Foster / son / age 7 / born Thornton
Mary CATHERALL /wifes daughter / age 17 / factory workwer / born Ovenden
ANNIS CATHERALL / WIFES DAUGHTER  / AGE 19  /   Factory worker / born Ovenden
Thomas Rushworth / brother in law / age 24 / Power Loom weaver

On The 1851 census, Mary Catherall is living with Jonathan and Martha, but Annis is living with......

Jonathan Catherall / head / age 56 / Wool Comber / / born Ovenden
Hannah Catherall / wife / age 55  /born Thornton
Annus Catherall   / daughter / age 10 / born Thornton (annis mis-transcribed )
Thomas RUSHWORTH / son in law / age 14

I suspect that Annis is a grandaughter. and Thomas a stepson in reality

My computer is playing up. I have the 1841 censu for this family, but will post it later.

Kind regards

JeannieR
