1891 Canadian census is online here:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1891/001081-100.01-e.php

I see from the 1881 census that only David, Sarah Ann, and John R are in the census with the family.
It seems by 1891 that David might have remarried to another Ann (or she's taken 20 years off her age!), and has extra children Peter, George, Jane, and Margaret.

http://archives.gnb.ca/
 shows births in NB:
Sarah Ann McGowen McPHerson (mother Ann Smith), 1874
John Ryan McPherson (mother Ann Smith), 1878
Jane Smith McPherson (mother Ann Smith), 1886
Isabella Smith McPherson (mother Ann Smith), 1891 (died 1892)

And in the newspaper records:
the death of Elizabeth, aged 2, daughter of David & Ann McPherson late of Kincardineshire, in 1874.

also newspaper record of
Quote
Arrival of "Castalia" colonists from Kincardineshire, Scotland intending to settle in Perth Parish
in 1873  shows David Mcpherson + "wife and three children" - Elizabeth, David, and one of Mary or Ann? (perhaps Mary or Ann died in Scotland before they left?)

http://www.theshipslist.com/accounts/ScotchColonists.html
 - more info on these immigrants - the ship list here differs from the newspaper record in that it shows "Donald" McPherson, wife and "two" children.
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

I've found the family on the 1911 census in Saint John and Ann's age is back where it should be.

David McPherson Sr., head, 64, born Dec 1846 in Scotland, immigrated 1872, farmer
Ann M McPherson, wife, 66, born Mar 1844 in Scotland, immigrated 1872
Margarett McPherson, daughter, 21, born Oct 1889 in New Brunswick
Benjamin Pountney, adopted son, 10, born Mar 1901 in England, immigrated 1911

Here's a link to the image at Library and Archives Canada:
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1911/pdf/e001960783.pdf

The NB Archives has an entry for a Margaret Finnie MacPherson born in Saint John County on 3 Oct 1889 to David MacPherson and Ann Smith. There is also a George Smith MacPherson born 7 Jan 1884 in Saint John County with the same parents. I couldn't find an entry for Peter. Quick tip when searching the BMD entries at the Archives, in the family name section if you change it from "begins with" to "contains" and then search "pherson" you'll get both Mc and Mac results.

I found an article in the newspaper database at the NB Archives you might be interested in. It is a short piece about the Allandale Rioters dated 4 Feb 1884. The article indicates that the rioters were being charged with "unlawfully beating and assaulting" a number of people. Included in the victims were David MacPherson, Ann MacPherson and David MacPherson, Jr. This David said he was employed by the Water Commission which doesn't match with his being a farmer on the 1881 and 1891 census but I didn't see any other David, Ann and David Mc/MacPherson in Saint John on those census either. Here's a link to the page at the Archives:

Might be interesting to try to find more information about this riot.

McPherson / Benjamin Pountney/ New Brunswick
« Reply #5 on: Monday 18 May 09 07:46 BST (UK) »
We mention home children when found so am adding for anyone searching this lad...
Benjamin Pountney was born Birmingham and am wondering if he is a home child, not yet added to the list...
or this one misspelled "PUTNEY, Benjamin "  age 10 , ship Carthaginian 1911
Anyway he married Nellie May Walton ...here is a son http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nbleprea/lepr2c1.htm

There were other Pountney children sent to Aus & Canada...so he may well be a home child not yet accounted for...

Allandale seems to be a "forgotten place" in NB.

Quote
There is little in the historical record about Allandale. One citizen from Allandale was recorded in history as having joined the Maine Militia during the US Civil war, but little else exists in the historical record. The arrangement of land plots suggests that the area was settled by pioneers, but little remains other than a few overgrown orchards and a lonely graveyard. Thankfully the Woodstock Knights of Columbus are taking good care of the grounds now.
If you think about it this road hasn't changed at all in over 150 years. No asphalt, just different vehicles going by once in a while. When Allandale existed it was a fairly short carriage ride north and you were at the train tracks. Maybe there was even a train station there and Allandale was a going concern? The rails are long gone and where they were is under water. Things changed and this place is barely a memory. But, back then it was a place to live, play, love and worthy of burying a loved one. Well worth researching further. This cache is hidden near the Allandale graveyard.
