COMPLETED _ Thanks to all - Help needed to decipher marriage cert
« on: Sunday 17 May 09 18:11 BST (UK) »
I hope someone can help me please.

The cert in question is my ggg grandparents marriage cert. They got married in Hougham Parish Church, nr Dover, Kent. My Grandfather was in the Army and under rank or profession I am thinking it says: Private 67th Regt?

I cannot decipher either bride or grooms residence although one of them ends (I think) in 'Heights'.

Under fathers profession do you think the first one is Lock maker?

Many thanks to anyone who can help.

For the residence I was wondering if I should post this on the Kent board, but I'll wait and see if anyone here can help.

Thanks again   :)

Hi,

Found this from an 1847 Directory of Kent:-

Public Houses in Dover:-

Jones John, Limekiln st

I wonder if it says Lime Kiln St, Dover on the cert.

Thanks,

Darin.

This link might be of interest, as the Hampshire Regiment was formed by the amalgamation of the 37th and 67th regiments. See:

http://www.southernlife.org.uk/hants_regt.htm

The 67th is first mentioned toward the bottom of the page

In the 1851 census, there was a location in Kent called "Dover Heights Barracks" which would tie in nicely with his military service.

Thanks,

Darin.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and help.

I'm sure it's Limekiln Street and the 67th regiment (South Hampshire) makes sense as I found Jeremiah at Parkhurst barracks Isle of Wight in the 1851 census.

Thanks again - very much appreciated
