Fyfield Open Air School
« on: Tuesday 19 May 09 14:38 BST (UK) »
I have been trying for a long time, to find out exactly where my Father was between 1900 and 1908. He is not on the 1901 census, but the rest of his family is. I know that he spent much of his boyhood in Fyfield ESSEX, but whereabouts unknown exactly, although I do know that a large part of his boyhood was spent in Fyfield prior to joining the Army in 1908, as a boy soldier. He was born in West Ham, and I know that they ran various types of schools in Fyfield for poor children. I have tried to obtain nominal rolls for this school, but with no result. Can anyone offer any advice as to where I can obtain these lists? My Father's name was Ernest Franklin b1893.

The library  in Stratford  , east London, UK  may have info  on this ,  my  husbands great grandfather(born  1878) was sent there in 1890-1893, it was called West  Ham Truant school, then ,  though  I'm sure it's the same place as you are looking for   I looked at the school logs  for 1891,  and though  there wasn't much on  the person  I wanted , they  did  put me in touch  with someone who  gave me info on dates   etc .     This was  about a year ago  now ,  so  I cannot recall  the  name of the person I  spoke to!!

Hello

Thank you very much for that information. I will try and follow it up with a phone call to the library.  Thanks again
