I  just checked the State Records Office of NSW  and  must admit I  cannot find any  information on a convict named William McCarthy, do you  know if he was sent to NSW after he was convicted?

YES HE CAME ON THE "BENGAL MERCHANT" 21/7/1838.
HE WAS TRIED AT THE CENTRAL CRIMINAL COURT LONDON 1837 AND SENTANCED TO 15 YEARS.

I have not been able to find any 'freedom' tickets and do not know what happened after they arrived. Did they go to goal or just work on some property for the time?

There are hearsays about him working for a Ben Boyde, but do not know any more, only after arriving in 1838 he married in 1848 - what happened in these 10 years when his term was 15 years?

His name was spelt McArthy on the marriage certificate.

Thank you Lee

Wonder if this is of interest to you.  It is one of many references to be found to BEN BOYD.

Back again.....Jane arrived from Glasgow with her siblings, William, Walter and Elizabeth.
Her parents Robert & Elizabeth were also on the ship "Waltram Rodger "1838, they were assisted.

How can I find the death details of Elizabeth..the mother..aged 34 and she died whilst in the quarantine station North Heads.

She was Elizabeth Craigie (Logan) and married Hamilton Lanmark 1825.

Thank you.

Sparrett, Thank you. I will get the certificate for the infant in 1838, as perhaps mother (Elizabeth) and the baby died at child birth. Will check this out.

My information came from another branch, but it has not been solved yet.

Robert Craigie married Janet Haddow 24/5/1839 (2nd marriage to look after the children)

Thank you will look into that death certificate for now.
