hello, i am new here and hope i get all this right!
im trying to find info on ethal swatman, im afraid i do not have much info, but here is the story,

she was living in the south of england (not sure where) and met an american solider called XXXX XXXX, they went together until the war finished, then XXXX went back to the usa, afterwards ethal discovered she was pregnant, and seeing as how this was the 40's she was very brave and decided to have and keep the baby, the baby was born in 1945, and she raised the child for 2 years but she got very unwell and gave the baby up for adoption, she sadly passed away not long after. the child has not got any info apart from her name as the home they were sent to had a big fire and the paperwork involved in the adoption was destroyed, i have been trying myself to find info out but not having much luck so if anyone could help i would be truley grateful.

This looks like a possible birth for Ethel.

Dec 1917, Wolverhampton, 6b/892
Ethel D Swatman
Mother's maiden name, Preston.

Do you know which year she died - if i can check her age at death, it will help clarify whether or not I have the right birth record.

I have found her death record but there is a bit of confusion on the age.

Sep 1947, Southampton/6b/474
Ethel D Swatman, aged 20

This makes her a full ten years younger than the birth record suggests but it is an uncommon name and I am inclined to think there has been an error on the death record.

I am going to check the birth records for the child but I can't post information on here about living people so I need you to make  two more posts, then I will be able to send you a personal message, if I find more relevant information.

Ok, now that we have established that we are on the right track....

Ethel's parents marriage:

Mar 1900 Wolverhampton, 6b/767
George Richard Swatman
Sarah Ann Preston.

The 1911 census has them living in Wolverhampton with five children. If you go to the 1911 census web site http://www.1911census.co.uk
You can search for them yourself and if you are prepared to pay for the credits, you can see and print the original image, probably with George's own handwriting on it.

I'm off to find them before they married. George will be easy - Sarah maybe more tricky because it's a more common name but I'll let you know.
