Any help most appreciated.

I found three Charles Fletchers (no middle initial) born 1884 (+/- 2 years) who arrived in Quebec and two were travelling alone. One in 1907 and the other in 1912. The other was a Home Child who arrived in 1894. There was also a Henry Fletcher in the group but it doesn't say whether they were related. The only entry I could find for a Charles W. Fletcher who arrived in Quebec indicates he was born about 1918.

Do you think the entire family emigrated? If so, when do you think they did?

Thank you so much for making the searches. :) I have been told the family emigrated to Canada in 1887. I have found the family on the 1891 census Montreal Quebec John Fletcher 38 Mary Ann Fletcher 28 Frederick John son 8, Charles Walter 7 apparently there are more children born later in Montreal. I can find no marriage for them in England though Mary Ann Fletcher nee hall was born in Jersey. Hope this helps.  :-\

It took a while but I finally found them. The person who wrote their surname on the passenger list didn't cross the "t" so they were listed as Flelcher. They were on the Texas which departed from Bristol and arrived in Quebec on 5 May 1887. Here's a link to the passenger list at Library and Archives Canada:

I found the family on the 1901 Canada census. Here's a link to a transcription of the census at the Automated Genealogy website:
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/DisplayHousehold.jsp?sdid=3337&household=82
Here are links to the census images at LAC (the family is split over two pages):

There is a problem though. I have found the birth/baptism entries for four of the children born in Quebec and their parents are listed as John Fletcher and Mary Ann/Marianne Cabot.

I also found a death in the Drouin Collection as follows:

Montréal (Methodist Centenary Pointe-St-Charles)

Charles Walter David Fletcher, son of John Fletcher and of his wife Mary Cabot Fletcher was drowned on the second day of July and was buried on the fourth day of July in the year one thousand eight hundred and ninetysix in the presence of the subscribing witness.
D.C. Sanderson
witness: John Fletcher

Hi Jacquie,
You have made my day  ;D ;D ;D well done you. It all ties in  ;D
I went to bed last night, as you do pondering, my thoughts with the 1891 census where I have found the Fletcher family and had taken one last look before bed and noticed an extra name after the children, a Charles Cabot right age for our Charles Hall birth 1874 England- wondered if parents hadn't married father a sailor and took mothers maiden name and then you came up with the goods. Great detective work. It is so satisfying. Pat yourself on the back.  :) ;) :D ;D

I'm confused but if the information I gave you connects to the ones you were looking for then I'm happy.

I don't know if this is Charles or not but there is a Chas Cabot, 16, who arrived in Quebec on the Grecian on 11 Jun 1890. His destination is listed as Montreal. Here's a link to the passenger list at Library and Archives Canada:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/06dw/
He's on line 5 and neither of the notes listed in the middle column near his name belong with his entry (ie the reference to the reformatory or being put ashore).

I had seen that census entry. I was confused on the Hall/Cabot connection because you said you were looking for a Hall uncle or mother-in-law so I thought when I gave Mary's maiden surname as Cabot that was bad news, not good.

You won't be in trouble. I use the RootsChat link shrinker when I have a long url to post. Here's the link to the shrinker:

There is also a link to it at the bottom of the page.
