Marriages 1930s to 1984

Where would be the best place to find marriage after about 1930 and before 1984? Ancestry only seems to have them after 1984 and freeBMD only seems to have completed up to about 1930s.

they are in Ancestry - but only indexed by first / last name on the page within Quarter .... so its a trawl, and especially frustrating if a handwritten addition has been made at the foot of a page, to throw out the Indexing  ....

Go to 'marriages - 1937 to 1983'.  There are four quarters to each year, and you'll have to have a look at them all until you come across the marriage you're searching for. 
I recommend doing a year at a time, so that you can keep track. 
If a name has been missed out of the list, there will be a notation on the page.  If you see one amongst the names look at the very bottom of the column for the added (out of order) entry.

You'll end up crosseyed and fed up- unless you get lucky and find them in which case it will hav eben worth it
... I never seem to the ones I hunt at the Library.

It worked when I was looking for my grandparents' marriage.  As they both came from Hull and ended up living in Manchester, it was the only way to fiind out that they actually married in Newport, Monmouthshire. 

I ended up writing down all the reference numbers of men with the same name as my grandfather and did the same for all the women with the same name as my grandmother, who had married between 1901 when my grandfather was 16 until 1908 when their first daughter was born.  Eventually I found a match.  Not sure why they weren't on FreeBMD but they weren't. 

Finding the birth of their first daughter was another problem.  In the end I got her death certificate (modern she only died in 1990 so place of birth shown too).  She was born in Scotland.  When I mentioned it to my mum she said "Oh I knew that I could have told you if you'd asked!"
