Marriage Lookup - Beverley Archives
« on: Tuesday 26 May 09 20:15 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone is going to Beverley Archives in the near future and could look up the marriage of John Duffil to Mary Duncum on 25 December 1829 at St Mary and St Nicholas.  It would be nice if the marriage entry gave the names of John and Mary's parents but I realise this is unlikely, given that a set form was in use by 1829.  However, the witnesses to the marriage may give some clues to their parentage.  The most likely fit of parents for John Duffil seems to be Thomas Duffil and Martha.

Grateful for any help

Hi,

I looked this up at the Beverley RO this morning, but not too much extra info to go on, I'm afraid.

St Marys, Beverley 25 Dec 1829 John Duffill of this parish, bachelor & Mary Duncum (I'll bow to the IGI here, but it was such a scrawly handwriting that it could have have been anything beginning with a D and the rest being small letters running into the line they were written on: I'd have said Duncan!). She was a spinster of this parish. They married by banns: The signed, she made her mark. he witnesses were: John Burton, Sarah Jacks and one illegible one who I don't think was a Duffill or a Duncum/Duncan.

I hope that helps.

Jill

Thanks Jill,

As I suspected, it doesn't get us much further, but at least I can eliminate the nagging thought that the marriage entry might give more of a clue and concentrate on the births and deaths!

Thanks again for such a speedy response.
