Stephen family of Premnay
« on: Friday 29 May 09 07:25 BST (UK) »
I recently found the birth of my William Stephen baptised Aug 1769 at Premnay.  It gave his father as Thomas Stephen and mother Isobel Sieveright.  He was burn at Burryhillock, which is a farm near Mills of Barns near Auchleven (Premnay).  Other than this entry.  I can find nothing on Thomas or Isobel.  No other children, marriage, deaths, nothing.  On the certificate one of the witnesses was John Stephen (Possibly Thomas's brother, Father, cousin??)  Any suggestions.  William married and raised his family and died a Burryhillock, so I would imagine his father and mother must have died there too.  So where are they buried?  You would think the Premnay graveyard, if not was it the practise of burying on your farm back then.  This is the second family of mine who are not buried in the graveyard but whos family grew up there, living and dying there.  The other Alexander Robb and his wife Isobel Maitland.  Any help apprecicated.

Hi,msh,
I had a quick look on the IGI and only found the christing of William Stephens 1769.
I also typed in Isobel Sieveright and up came 17 entries in the area worth checking out.
My thought is you have to get onto the fee pay site Scotland's People
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
There you will find the OPR,S Old Parochial Record,s ie the church records prior to 1855.
Looking back from the Christing of William you should find the Parents Marriage and pos other siblings.
Regards,Billy.

Thank you for your quick reply.  I have been to scotlandspeople.gov.uk and that is where I found William's baptism.  My problem is I can's seem to find any other entries for Thomas and Isobel.  I am sure there must have been siblings unless they died but I have found nothing.  I have found a great deal other Stephen's in Premnay, all possibly related.  I will check Isobel Sieveright out though thanks.  I have looked back for Thomas and Isobel's marriage but nothing today.  Perhaps they never married.  Thanks again.  Maryann
