GIBBONS - Postmistresses from Middlesex
« on: Friday 29 May 09 20:36 BST (UK) »
On the 1841 census of Compton Bishop in Somerset is an Ann GIBBONS aged 83 and Mary GIBBONS aged 45 - they are both born out of the County.  Mary is described as a Postmistress.

Ann GIBBONS died in 1842 but in 1851 Mary, aged 57 and her sister Elizabeth, aged 59 are Postmistress and Assistant Postmistress in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset both giving their birth place as Kingsland, Middlesex.

I've found Elizabeth on the 1841 census in Wells, Somerset as an Independent but living in the same house as the Postmaster and his family, born out of County.

I've been told that Ann GIBBONS was the first Postmistress in the Axbridge District of Somerset but I would like to know whether she was the mother of Elizabeth & Mary.

Can anyone help with any information about the GIBBONS family and whether there is any trace of them in Kingsland, Middlesex.

Thank you

Pat
