Bell Gateshead 1901 and earlier
« on: Wednesday 23 February 05 21:27 GMT (UK) »
Trying to trace Joseph Albert Bell, born 3 September 1899.   From his birth certificate, we know that his father was William Bell and his mother Ann (nee Coyne).   At the time of birth, they were living at 76 Southey Street Gateshead.

Looking for any information from 1901 census for Joseph and any earlier census or record of marriage etc for William and Ann.

Do you know from the birth cert what Williams Occ was or his age ? . There are 1000,s of William Bells/Ann Coynes and if you could tell us a wee bit more , just to narrow things down we might be able to help 8)

Joe,

The occupation on the birth certificate is "Chemists Labourer".

On the 1901 census site index there is a William Bell age 23 b North Shields living in Tynemouth who is a Chemist and Druggist.   I could not find Ann.    It is free to search www.census.pro.gov.uk and the 1881 is free too.

Thanks - I've already tried both databases, but there are just too many William Bells to be certain.   I thought I might be able to track him by the address (possibly).   I am almost certain that your suggestion is not William as we have family hearsay that he ended up as a colliery labourer.

have you tried looking at http://www.ndfhs.fsnet.co.uk/RegIndex.html

this is the ukbmd site for Newcastle - you might be able to track down the marriage there.  I'm having trouble accessing it at the moment so can't look for you.

Thanks for that, nothing unfortunately.   Not a single Coyne, although several William Bells.
