I enjoy a geographical puzzle.
At the moment, I can't tell you where it is, but perhaps where it is not, as it is not listed today as one of Lancashire's villages. Nor is the place listed in the online gazeteer for the Ordanance Survey. This suggests the hunt ought to be a village that has been absorbed into one of the larger conurbations surrounding some of LAN bigger towns and cities (subsequent to the date of the census image), which may be difficult to find without local knowledge. As BOSCOT is a LAN surname, this suggest some geographical reference should be found.
Good luck.
Mark

Hi
Where did you find the reference from? If from a census we may be able to deduce its location.

After a bit of digging, I have a suggestion. There is a very small place called "Bescar" just SE of Southport, if this is close to census place.

The entry is for Edward Branwell, aged 8, in Tipton, Staffs. (RG9/2041 ED2 FOL34 PAG16), so he won't be on th 1851.
Father George is a railway labourer, and obviously moved around.

I've had a look for others with Boscot as their birthplace. Only a few in 1861, and virtually all in Liverpool.
One of them appears in 1871, when his birthplace becomes "Burscough".

The local pronunciation matches well, and you wouldn't expect anyone in Tipton to have heard of the place.

It has two railway lines too.
