DONNE - Houghton Regis
« on: Thursday 04 June 09 19:50 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for the perants of Rev. John Donne, husband to Dinah Donne (Haslehurst) and any information on the relationship between John Donne, Matthew Donne, and John William Donne as all three married the three Haslehurst sisters.

Also looking for Dinah Haslehursts perants. She was born 1790 Houghton Regis, Married John Donne 25 sep 1817 Milton Ernest.

Any links to the Boyden, Delafield and Cowper families would also be greatly appreciated!! Thanks  :)

Guess you have seen this

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/A2A/records.aspx?cat=004-z951_xml&cid=-1&Gsm=2008-06-18#-1

About a third the way down the page, and from there to nearly the bottom. There is reference to a John Knight DONNE, and as the material is all about estate and will of Edward KNIGHT, I would say the Haslehurst girls mother was a Knight as they are referred to as his nieces.

Hello Lockins;

The Houghton Regis Parish records has no entries for Donne or Haselhurst or the other 3 names you requested. If Dinah Haselhurst was born there in 1790 she wasn't baptised there.

A book on the Houghton Regis parish church states that John Donne was the vicar there from 18 Feb 1819 until the next one, William Wilson, started on 1 Sept 1846

In the transcribed HR MIs done in 1970 there is an entry for John Donne, died 1847; vicar for 27 years.

regards John

Hello china,

It is in the Beds Family History Society library. You can read it when you attend our meetings on the 1st Friday of each month (bar August)

http://mysite.verizon.net/brianmpayne/publications.html

We have other MI's available on micro-fiche but not Houghton Regis. This publication is not one that BFHS produced, it was done by ther Bedford Modern School in 1970. However if you have a name in mind let me know & I will do a look up for you.

regards John  (Librarian BFHS)

Hi

I have just come across tis thread and have also got as far as discovering that the Misses Hazlehurst were the nieces of an Edward Knight of Milton Ernest.

However, I can't find anything more about them as yet.

I can tho' help with the Donne family.

Dinah and Martha married 2 siblings - sons of Matthew Donne (or Dunn)
and Ann Bowen. They were from the Llandow area of Glamorgan and Matthew senior was a schoolmaster in Cowbridge.
There also seem to be links with St Donats.

John William Donne (Mary's husband) was a second cousin of the brothers and they settled in the Morriston area of Swansea (one son was John KNIGHT Dunn; another Jasper Haslehurst Dunn).

Hope this is helpful

Stessy
