Thanks, and yes I Do He Married mary Whiteman, and His Parents Were William R Davey and maria Crickmore, he was from woolpit suffolk

Have you checked the 1911 census for his occupation - he is shown as living in Chertsey Surrey

1901 shows him as a grocers assistant

Nope i havent, have you got copies for 1901 & 1911, and i know he was in woolpit 1891 but dont know if he travelled from there :S

But when herbert was older he was recorded in chertsey like you sed, i also know of him living in kingston, willesden, london, bury st edmunds, norfolk, and around places in suffolk, and around surrey, and london, and alot more places i cant remember where my nan said, but this suggests he travelled alot?

The fact that he lived in several areas does not make him a gypsy

He may have gone to live in areas where there was more work to enable him to feed his family (or possibly to avoid paying debts?)

One of my ancestors was born and married in Liverpool but had children in Wolverhampton, Shropshire and  Manchester.  he was a bricklayer so went were the work was
