Horace and Gertie WARD Stamford publicans
« on: Monday 08 June 09 15:46 BST (UK) »
I am struggling to find the  marriage of my great uncle Horace Ward and Gertie. He was born in 1881 in Norfolk and my great grandparents moved to Peterborough. He went on to run a pub in Stamford and died there in 1967. Gertie died there 2 years later. I remember visiting them after he had retired - I don't know that they had any children.

Hi,

A little extra info would help please ;)

Parents names, exact reg. of birth, when did they move to Lincolnshire from Norfolk etc.

There are 3 Horace Ward births reg. in Norfolk 1878-1882
Horace Augustus
Horace Frederick
Horace
There are marriages for Horaces but no obvious one as Gertie could be an Elizabeth .

Thanks

Horace (1881 - 1967) )was son of William Ambrose Ward (1843 - 1917)and his wife Elizabeth (nee Rix born 1844 Gayton).
They left Downham/ Wisbech areas of Norfolk in late 1880s and moved to Peterborough where they lived in Rogers St and Walpole St.
Horace's birth was registered in Downham in 1881.
Horace (Horrie) was still with his parents in 1901 but I haven't tracked him down in 1911 yet.
Gertie was Gertrude M who died in Q1 1969 aged 85.

EDIT,
Thanks for that, ignore below, our posts must have crossed ???

I think I have answered one of my own questions ;D
Parents William and Elizabeth.
In 1891 census Horace is 10 and 1901 is 17.Trying to narrow down timeframe for possible marriage, so post 1901.

The only one I can find is not till 1834 ???

Horace.J. WARD
Gertrude VINCENT
June 1934
West Bromwich
6b 1683

Could there have been a possible first marriage for both of them?

Think you may have to find him on 1911 Census to narrow down marriage date.

Sorry, cant be of any more help.

Thanks 4 this Trish - I will look into this option further - it could be that he moved around as a builder before settling in Stamford

Cheers
