2. At the time of Griffith's valuation, there were 4 William Hannons in Kildare: Athy, Naas, Monasterevin and Rathmore. Does anyone know more about these four?

Michael,
Thank you for your reply and the historical informatin.

While I have no documents that my family is from Kildare, my enquiry is based on there being 4 william Hannons in Kildare inGriffth's valuation and that my fmaily settled with Irish emigrants form eastern counties such as Meath, Louth, Carlow, Longford.

Are the Hannons part of your family? Please provide your specifics if so. I don't know if my Hannons still remain in Ireland or not.    Your information might help me at least rule them out if needed.

hi
i have no hannon connections but i met a mr hannon whose ancestors ran a mill in castledermot. this gentleman is now quite elderly and when phoned him he was unable to give me information except that there are hannon headstones in st james church yard in castledermot co kildare.

have you put a question on the kildare ireland historic counties section of roots some of the posters are very helpful.

look up the kildare nationalist paper they have archived articles on south kildare by frank taffe.

ps the kildare nationalist articles are called "eye on the past"

if you log into the kildare county library website you may be able to check which graveyard inscriptions are available.

regards michael

Michael, Thanks so much for your information and kindness.

Yes, the Kildare website you mentioned is  an absolute goldmine. I'll be blessed if indeed that where we're from .  There is such good documentation online. The Meath prospect I'm researching now suggests my Hannon-Malones may still have come from Kildare including a Newbridge birth for William around 1796.

I will look into your other suggestions as well. Go raibh maith agat. Thanks so much.

Look for my separate reply to your Lambe post.
