PHILLIPS, *Completed! Thanks to Everyone who helped*.
« on: Saturday 13 June 09 16:24 BST (UK) »
Is it just me, - or are other people finding the 1911 Census for Glamorgan difficult to use?

I have wasted lots of credits downloading household transcripts which have turned out to be wrong:-( Partly I think this is due to some of the names being fairly common at that time...

I am however, completely stuck on this one. (I am not asking for a free look-up, - merely some searching advice).

I have James Phillips, born Pembroke 1864, married to Sarah Ann Rees, born Morriston 1864 on the 1891 and 1901 Censuses for Glamorgan, living in Brynforgan Terrace, Morriston. They have sons, Evan Rees Phillips, born 1888 and David Phillips born 1900. James Phillips is employed in the Tinworks.

I am unable to locate any of them on the 1911 Census for Glamorgan:-( Although Sarah Ann's parents, Evan and Margaret Rees are still in Brynforgan Terrace in 1911.

Any help welcomed!
Cheers, Romilly.

Was his name Thomas James Phillips? There is someone of that name coming up for Swansea, with a David included; DOB is 2 years out so it depends whether you want to "waste" some credits checking.  ???

I've found all the ones I've looked for so far, but I'm lucky in that they didn't move around much.

Good luck.

Hi Bev,

And Many Thanks for looking!

Ages seem to move about on the Censuses,  ::) I have him down as 1864/5, (he's 27 on the 1891 Census for Glamorgan) but its worth a look at the one that you mention. Do you have a Ref, or were you looking under 'Phillips'?

Cheers, Romilly.

I put in James Phillips, with David in "other members of household."

I don't know whether it is him and it's quite pricey to find out! Great if you come up trumps, but ****** frustrating if he's the wrong one.

I bit the bullet yesterday and spent some money, but the more I find the more I want to find and it's going to be blooming expensive!

Oh dear, - it was another wrong 'un! :'(

This one is mistranscribed as a 'Steal Worker' :) His wife has an unusual name, - Typhonia Phillips! (If anyone is looking for her, let me know, -& I will gladly pass it on).

You have to laugh... :'( :'(

Are there any more children born after 1900? Did anyone die before 1911 census ?

Have read the above - my apologies, did'nt realise it included search results thought you couldn't post the original transcripts. Thanks for clarification and info.  :)

Could they have moved to a different area in Glamorgan or maybe the family visiting friends of living with other family members   :-\

Have you checked the 1911 emurators book pages under list where Sarah's parents were living to see if any Phillips were living in that road. I did'nt realise at the time that my gg/f and g/f where listed on the same page but not living together in the same house.
Good luck with your search  :)
