« on: Monday 15 June 09 22:19 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if 19th century poor relief records fro Reay parish are still in existence, and if so, where/how they can be accessed?

thanks,
Janet

Hi Janet  :)

If you  go to:

http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html?Thurso/Thurso.shtml

You'll see that Reay was part of the Thurso Combination.  The records would be at the North Highland Archives in Wick

http://www.highland.gov.uk/leisureandtourism/what-to-see/archives/northhighlandarchives/

It says that they hold:

Quote
Combination Poorhouse minutes (1905-1925); Record of applications for relief (1855-1917); Children's register (1854-1900); Inspector's visiting book (1873-1889).

also see:

http://www.caithness.org/community/museums/nha/index.htm

Addresses and e-mails are on both sites.
