McAree
« on: Friday 19 June 09 13:01 BST (UK) »
Hi all
I am looking for Thomas McAree's marriage to Ellen McQuade.
I assume they married in Belfast, and were Catholic.
Children born during 1920s and 30s so I assume the marriage was around 1920.  I can't seem to find them anywhere.
Family thinks that Thomas was born in Salford, England and that Ellen was born in India, but without father's names from marriage cert, I'm finding this process difficult.

The family home was in Cavendish Street belfast, and the children were:
Joseph, Thomas, Patrick, Sarah, Hugh and John.  John  was born XXXX and is my husband's grandfather.
I appreciate any advice you can give me on the family, and also how to access birth details for India.
Thanks
Karen

Thanks for confirming that all the children listed are deceased but birthdate listed was fairly recent which was another reason it was removed.
Have you tried searching for marriage in index to civil registrations yet? Registrations for Northern Ireland counties go up to 1921 but it would be worth checking there if you haven't done so already.

I did a very quick search for 'thomas m'aree' but nothing showed up but perhaps you'll have better luck.
Also tried Emerald Ancestors (think from memory their marriages go up to 1927?) but again no result.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Aghadowey
Yes i have checked the family search site, emerald, uhf - all the usual suspects, and am currently trying different variations on names.  I have found possibilities for Ellen McQuade on the 1911 census but as I've no idea of her family or age, I'll have to be persistent in trying to find the marriage.
Thanks

Going off at a tangent, but still sometimes worth checking, Scotlandspeople seem to have a Thomas McAree marriage in 1899. They also seem to have a Thomas McAree born in 1901.

Not an overly common surname it seems so you never know.

Or.......

Free BMD have a

Thomas McAree born 1900 Salford

Vol 8d Page 97

which sounds even more promising.

And also to assist you:

And:

BRSGenealogy Antrim have an Ellen McQuoid marriage for 1918 Antrim.....can't see a corresponding Thomas McAree, but as you will have realised...his name could have been transcribed differently.

Hi
Thanks for the info.  I think that the thomas mcaree on free bmd sounds good. Where would I be able to order that cert?  Sorry, I haven't had any dealings with English genealogy, so I'm not sure where to get it.  Thanks also for the India link- I couldn't find her on it, but there are a few births for Ellen McQuade with various spellings in belfast.  I'll have to check that one out a bit more.
As for the marriage.  No luck yet but I'll keep searching.

...I think I have ordered via http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ in the past.

Hi
I got the certificate but have no way of knowing if this is my Thomas McAree, although it does appear to be the only one.  He was born 23/05/1900 in salford.  His mother was Sarah McCann, and his father Hugh McAree.  I've looked up their marriage and it was in Belfast on 14/02/1887.  Sarah's father was John McCann, a tailor and Hugh's father was also Hugh McAree, a fluting master.

I'm hoping to confirm this is my Thomas by working back through birth certificates.  Can anyone tell me where to get the details from a birth certificate dated 1931?  I looked at GRO's site but it says to order the cert you need this info:
    * Full name of person whose birth certificate is required.
    * Date and place of birth (district or street and town).
    * Names of parents (including mother's maiden name.)
    * Mother's address at time of birth.

I know John McAree's date of birth, but not any other info such as mother's maiden name, place of birth etc.  Any ideas?

Thanks for any help
Karen
