Hi Janet

I'm very tempted to send for some death certificates - especially Edgar with his inscription "accidentally killed"  and Jessie with her "dear mother".   It looks like there's a lot of information recorded on your Australian death certs!

WILMSHURST
Edgar
Died 16 Jul 1937  66 years
My husband and our father, accidentally killed
Rookwood Anglican  Section 12  Row 30  Grave 3690

I wonder if our lovely 'chatter Judb would have a look at the Sydney newspapers for his death/funeral notice or perhaps even a news item about his accidental death.

Jenn mentioned the WILMSHURST families in SA.  There appear to be three brothers, William b.1815, Amos b.1827 and Charles b.1825 who emigrated to South Australia - 1839, 1848 and by 1851.  They were the sons of William and Jemima nee TWYMAN all born Pluckley, Kent

http://www.familyhistorysa.info/shipping/passengerlists.html
WILMSHURST Amos, Mary Blacklocks n BALCOMB, My, Eliza arrived 1848-08-26 on Constance from London 1848-05-16 v Plymouth 1848-05-26
http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/1848Constance.htm
Name is mistranscribed.

WILMSHURST William, Sarah n SKINNER / (Augusta) arrived 1839-08-24 on Somersetshire from London
http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/1839Somersetshire.htm

There is a further information on these families and if you wish, I am happy to type up the info for you :)

Australian Electoral Roll NSW 1903 [Not everyone enrolled unfortunately - wasn't compulsory]

WILMSHURST Catherine Alice 122 Allen Street, Leichhardt  Domestic Duties
WILMSHURST Edith Martin, 122 Crystal Street, Petersham  Typist
WILMSHURST Frederick 122 Crystal Street, Petersham  Marble Mason
WILMSHURST Grace  52 Albany Road, Petersham  Switch Attendant
WILMSHURST Jessie  52 Albany Road, Petersham  Dressmaker
WILMSHURST Mary  52 Albany Road, Petersham  Domestic Duties
WILMSHURST Maud  52 Albany Road, Petersham  Teacher.

Australian Electoral Rolls 1930
WILMSHURST Maud  140 Albany Road, Petersham  Teacher
WILMSHURST Mary Ann Martin, 140 Albany Road, Petersham  Home duties
WILMSHURST Edith  140 Albany Road, Petersham  Typiste

WILMSHURST Edgar  489 King Street, St Peters Marble mason
WILMSHURST Margaret 489 King Street, St Peters  HD

I apologise I have made an error in the addresses of Frederick in 1903 - should be 122 Allen Street, Leichhardt but his occupation is listed as Marble Mason; and Edith Martin - should be 118 Crystal Street, Petersham.  Think I need new specs :-[

Thanks Cando for posting this for me.  Found a minute this evening to add to it.

1. The actual spelling on the funeral notice was WILMSHURST - sorry bad typing.

I have scanned the little article in the news section of the SMH about the accident.  Janet, if you would like it you can PM me your email address and I can forward it to you.

2.  I have actually found a Wilmshurst death  in a Melbourne paper 1995 - was looking for WILKS lol.  It was for  a Dr John Roy WILMSHURST died in Sydney 18 Oct, son Of Roy (dec) and Jean. If you want any further info on that one let me know.

I would feel  that  the  Ryerson  entry would indicate  that at some point someone  requested a lookup  for  this  death.

Which make me  feel  that a researcher was looking for more family  history.

I  noted when  researching my  family  there is a Shoebridge  there for around 1890,  so  that would  surely  be a lookup request

justmy opinion  for what it is worth ;D
