Apologies if you already know some of this!
The census forms were completed by those who could write or if not filled in by officials who called for the completed form. These forms were then transcribed onto sheets known as folios. Each area was given a number known as a piece.
So when you get census info you're given piece - folio -page reference. For the George I found that reference is
piece 4154, folio 18, page 29, Westoe.
With that info you can find the exact page in the enumerator's book.
Each household had to supply information. this is the info for George:
Address: 43-45 Alderson St
Forename: George
Surname: NICHOLSON (It's convention that in any discussion about genealogy, surnames are written in capitals!)
Relationship to head (head of the household): George was a "boarder".
ms: marital status S=single M=married W=widowed
Age: 27
Occupation: blacksmith
Cob: county of birth YKS=Yorkshire. These are abbreviations used known as the Chapman code for all counties and some countries.
OVB overseas British subject meant the person was born overseas but was a British subject.
OVF meant born overseas foreigner ie not a British subject
Birthplace: the town or area believed to be that person's birthplace.
Never take everything you read on a census form as gospel!
Hope that helps.
