*Completed" Blodwen Evans b1905 - 1911 Frustrations
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 13:04 BST (UK) »
My grandmother Blodwen Evans (b1905 in Merthyr Tydfil) was the daughter of Lewis Evans (b1872 Vaynor, Breconshire) and Charlotte (nee Davies b 1875 Merthyr Tydfil).

Siblings of my Nan were Margaret b1897, William b1898 & Tydfil b1907 - all b Merthyr Tydfil.

I have tried all sorts of combinations of searches on the 1911 site and cannot locate them anywhere! I found my Nan's other sister Elizabeth (b1899) staying with her grandmother but there appears to be no trace of Blodwen and her parents & siblings!

I've spent a small fortune trying to locate them without any luck at all. It seems obvious to me that my family's surname has been transcribed incorrectly (!?!) & what is especially frustrating with the 1911 site is that you cannot do a search on just a christian name  - you have to enter some form of surname  >:(

I've emailed the 1911 site about this frustration and just received a "thank you for your amendment" automatic response with no suggestion as to how I can resolve the issue.

If anyone stumbles across any family resembling any of the details above whilst looking through the 1911 census - please let me know. Also, if anyone has managed to get any response from the 1911 site re this issue about being able to search on just a christian name - please get in touch.  :-X

Hi Nigel

You can search on just a surname by filling in a "*" in the census reference field.

I can find a possible family in the Pontypridd registration district. If you use the advanced search and look for Charlotte Evans married in 1896 +/-1, born 1875 +/-2 with Lewis, Blodwen or William in the household, there's what seems to be the same entry in Pontypridd every time. Not sure that Margaret is home though!

By the way, advanced search lets you search on just the first name.

Thank you very much Osprey and Arranroots - I've now done as suggested and I think I have located the records you mention. If it is them, I haven't a clue why they are in Pontypridd! ???
