Partridge Russell of Cranbrook
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 16:40 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I'm trying to find out more information about an ancestor of mine. Partridge Russell (1637-1683) was a yeoman from Cranbrook, and had at least 7 children by his wife Catherine. I'm trying to find out:

1) His marriage to Catherine. The marriage would have taken place between 1653 and 1662. They were not married at Cranbrook, nor the nearby villages

2) His sisters marriage. A excerpt from the book "A Market Town and its Surrounding Villages" reads:

"Partridge Russell was bondsman for Edward Kingswood in his marriage to Alice Besbeech in 1667; both men were yeoman of Cranbrook as well as being related by marriage, Edward's brother having married Partridge's sister."

I'm aware of two sister, Mary and Jane, but cannot link either of them to a Kingswood. On a side note though, the above Edward &  Alice Kingswood were married at Dover. This could mean that both Partridges and his sisters marriage may have taken place far from Cranbrook, to maybe not in Kent at all

Can anyone help me with tracking these marriages down?

Regards

Lee

As Partridge RUSSELL was reasonably wealthy, have you tried looking for a Marriage Licence?

"Full abstracts have been published of the diocese of Canterbury's marriage allegations, bonds and licences. These cover the years 1543-1869 and can be found on the library bookshelves at CKS (reference: XK 929.3)."

Partridge Russell was christened on 6 August 1637 in Cranbrook, and buried on 7 June 1683 in Cranbrook
He married Katherene Kindgewood (possibly on 19 September 1661 in Whitechapel - not confirmed).
Katherene Kindgewood was christened on 18 November 1638 in Cranbrook, and buried on 27 March 1692 in Cranbrook.
I have some details of all the parents and some of the grandparents of the above if you are interested.
